If you are getting your hair done at the salon, there are a few things you can do beforehand to prepare yourself and get the most out of your appointment. When you are going to a different hairdresser, you also want to be familiar with their expectations of you as a client and ensure you are behaving with the proper salon etiquette.
At Radical Hair, we perform style cuts and colours for our clientele in Sydney. We take appointments, so please call ahead on (02) 9651 3200. In the meantime, here is some advice on preparing for your upcoming hair appointment.
The most important thing you can do is take some time to think about what style you want. We are happy for you to come in and ask for our recommendation, but if you have something in mind, it is best to narrow down your options beforehand. This way you can go through different options and have exactly what you want in mind. However, do be mindful of your natural hair type when selecting your style. Our stylists may be highly skilled, but there are limits. It is best to select a style and cut which will sit better with your natural hair texture.
If you can, bring a photo of what you want. This reduces the possibility for misunderstandings. Your stylist will be able to see exactly what you have in mind – and a good stylist will always be honest with you if that is not a realistic goal for your hair type.
Some will advise to always wash your hair before a trip to the hairdresser. While this is generally good etiquette if you are not sure, it is best to confirm with your stylist ahead of time. Some stylists prefer to work with hair that has a little more natural oils on it, which can be protective if you are having a chemical treatment. Whether or not you should wash your hair before a trip to the hairdresser depends on what you are having done, as well as your natural hair type, so ask us before your appointment.
When you come in to your appointment, it is best to wear your hair as you normally would have it on a daily basis. If you normally go with a natural wave, do not straighten it the day of your haircut. It is actually easier for the hairdresser if they understand how your hair sits. Also, be honest with the hairdresser about how you care for your hair. This will factor into how they perform the style or colour. If you ask for a cut that only looks nice when straightened, but you do not have time to straighten your hair every morning, you are going to be disappointed. Be realistic and your hair will look better for it.
Finally, one more thing you can do before your appointment is ensure you arrive on time. Because processing like dyeing the hair take a certain amount of time, hairdressers must schedule their appointments precisely. Being punctual is always appreciated, and if not, it is polite to call ahead to say you are running late.
